Sommelier Heath Hiudt was selected to lead the UNLV Sommelier Academy based on his thorough knowledge of wine, his comprehensive understanding of the Las Vegas food and beverage industry, and his reputation as a dynamic educator. He has taught wine education courses at UNLV Continuing Education since 2007.
Currently, Hiudt is a Sommelier at STK at the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas, a position he has held for over two years. Prior to that, he held the same position with the Nine Group at the Palms Casino. Before relocating to Las Vegas, Hiudt served as a manager with the Jeff Ruby Culinary Group in Cincinnati, where he was responsible for all beverage cost, ordering, and beverage/wine training for the staff of three restaurants.
Hiudt earned his Sommelier Certification through the International Sommelier Guild (ISG). Based on his outstanding performance in the program, coupled with many years of experience in the industry, he was invited to participate in the ISG's prestigious Teacher Education Program and was then invited to teach in the Wine Fundamentals Certificate program. Hiudt also has an Associate of Arts and Sciences in Communication from the University of Cincinnati.
High praise from peers and students
"The class was a wealth of information that was delivered by instructor Hiudt in a methodical and professional manner. While some of the classes were eight hours in one day, he always managed to keep the interest level high. He was very approachable and responded to email inquiries from myself and others on a regular basis. I look forward to the opportunity to take his wine classes in the future. He has been instrumental in taking me from a wine enthusiast to a wine professional."
Heath is a great teacher. I knew nothing about wine until I took his class. His clear and concise teaching skills make it so easy to learn and understand wine from the vine to the bottle. I am in charge of one of the largest wine rooms on the Strip and it was a great honor to me to have learned by such a knowledgeable teacher. I will continue to follow Heath and his classes.”
