Legal Secretary Certificate Program

Legal secretaries are essential members of any legal team. They are often the client’s first point of contact within a firm, so hiring attorneys look for excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills will help legal secretaries perform administrative duties such as calendar control, file management, and basic bookkeeping.

In addition to thriving in these general duties, legal secretaries must also have a strong grasp of the legal field. They must therefore have extensive knowledge of legal terminology and court processes. Specialized training helps legal staff respond quickly and effectively to emerging technology and evolving workplace demands.

This certificate program prepares you for an entry-level position as a legal secretary. Or, if you already have a position, enroll to upgrade your skills. Classroom time is supplemented with online learning resources.

Program Requirements:

To earn the Legal Secretary Certificate you must be enrolled in the certificate application course 173LE9999 and successfully complete the Legal Secretary course.


It is recommended students have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Students should also have a working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Students must know how to use the internet and have daily access to the internet and a printer.

We recommend you attend an optional information session, scheduled at the beginning of each semester.
