Sometimes the education and training you need may require you to look beyond the traditional campus. UNLV Continuing Education leverages the resources of UNLV as Southern Nevada’s premier university to offer a broad spectrum of non-credit courses each term. This fall there are a number of new courses and programs to build and refresh skills or enhance and inspire learning.

Continuing Education is working in partnership with academic departments to provide developmental and refresher classes to support students to progress to degree completion. “Math Success Initiative was developed with the Math Center to provide a math readiness program to prepare students for a college-level math course,” said Doris Ostrander, director of Continuing Education. “We have two of UNLV’s top math instructors teaching this intensive eight-week program, using an online, innovative approach in a small group, face-to-face learning environment.”

This math course expands Continuing Education's offerings that are helpful to UNLV students. It also has a series of Excel courses for undergraduate and graduate students to be able to increase their knowledge and experience in analyzing and presenting data.

As the Southern Nevada economy gets stronger, UNLV Continuing Education is reinvigorating its course offerings and training programs to prepare the workforce for new opportunities. With more than 20 professional development certificates and nearly 300 courses, people can gain the skills employers need now and in the future. New certificate programs include Beer Steward & Connoisseur, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Corrective Exercise and Fitness Nutrition Specialist, Mediation, the UNLV Grant Academy, Nurse Paralegal, and Private Airplane and Helicopter Pilot. These programs join the popular and nationally-recognized Paralegal, Legal Secretary, Graphic Design, Protective Services, Fashion Design, Human Resource and Nonprofit Management certificates and the UNLV Sommelier Academy.

Continuing Education rounds out its list of learning opportunities with courses to take just for fun and personal enrichment. Consider enrolling in a history course sure to make you take a fresh look at the past. Last Call: The Alcoholic Republic and Prohibition will cover the complex origins, history, and impact of Prohibition in the United States. In God We Trust: Religion and the Founding Fathers explores the religious values and ideals of the Founders, and trace those values to modern-day America.
