In 2013 Continuing Education led an expedition to the very end of the earth. This land of glittering ice, majestic peaks, and dazzling beauty is a haven for migratory birds, whales, seals, and other marine mammals which come each summer to feast in its food-rich coastal waters. We visited during the Antarctic summer when temperatures were mild, generally hovering just above freezing.

Kevin Fahey has worked in the architectural field for 40 years. Educated at the Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois in Chicago, he has a Bachelor of Architectural Studies degree and is a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society. Former president of the San Francisco chapter of the Association of Facilities Engineers, he has worked for many years in the facilities field and has taught computer-aided drafting at Solano Community College.
Marvin (Nick) Saines is an interpretive naturalist/geologist at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area west of Las Vegas, where he leads geology hikes, gives geology talks, and does geological research. At Red Rock, he verified dinosaur footprints found by hikers and discovered an additional dinosaur track site. He has co-authored scientific papers on the finds with paleontologist Steve Rowland of the UNLV Geoscience Department.
