The Spring 2020 course catalog was released online and sent in the mail this week, so now is a great time to take a peek at new offerings. UNLV’s Continuing Education staff has been working hard to develop new classes and certificates to help you get ahead at work or even launch a new career.

A new Integrated Marketing Communications Certificate is designed to teach current and aspiring marketing professionals how to streamline costs and efforts while yielding improved results. Integrated Marketing Communications unifies multiple elements of marketing— public relations, social media, and advertising — into a consistent branding effort that remains constant across distinct media channels. This approach allows organizations to provide a seamless customer experience. Classes touch all segments of marketing and communications, including social media marketing, digital media, journalism, market research, public relations, public outreach, broadcast media, and other related areas. An advisory board of some of the area’s leading marketing and advertising professionals guided development of the Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) Certificate. They combined decades of experience and expertise across several fields to develop the curriculum. For certificate details and upcoming class dates, visit ced.unlv.edu/integrated-marketing.

A Management Certificate is also launching in spring. Continuing Education previously offered similar classes under the human resource category, but upon talking with students staff realized that many first time managers were also enrolling. “Employees get promoted internally to a management position, and oftentimes an employer does not have formal management training in place, especially at smaller companies,” notes Senior Program Developer Heidi Erpelding-Welch, “With this certificate, employers can feel confident that managers are getting consistent direction as they take on a new leadership role.” As candidates work toward a UNLV Management Certificate, they will develop skills in five key management competency areas: conflict management, communications, people/team management, project management, and managing diversity in the workplace. This program is an ideal starting point for all new supervisors/managers, as well as a go-to program for seasoned managers looking to upgrade skills. Spanish for Health Care Professionals is for current and future health care providers new to Spanish who want to interact in Spanish with patients. Given the large Spanish-speaking population in the Las Vegas area, there is a great need for health care professionals who speak Spanish. Studies show that when providers speak at least some Spanish, the patient-provider relationship improves, patient compliance is better, health outcomes are better, and patient satisfaction is better. Spanish for Health Care Professionals meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting in February and is a three-class series. For more details visit ced.unlv.edu/Spanish-healthcare.
